Ready or not, here comes the future of measurement. Here are four measurement tips—two are easy, two a bit more difficult—to prepare yourself to succeed:
- Read Nate Silver’s book “The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail–but Some Don’t.” You’ll understand everything you need to know about statistics.
- Master Excel pivot tables. Watch a video, take a course, find a friend, come to our annual one-day Measurement Base Camp, whatever. This basic data analysis skill is the key to the future of understanding your data.
- Understand data visualization. You won’t win the board room with words, you’ll need great data visualization. So master a visualization platform like Tableau, Microsoft’s Power BI, Qlik, or IBM Watson.
- Learn to speak a different (business) language. We’re not talking French or German, we’re talking the language of business: economics, finance, business administration, even HR. The communications star of the future will need to understand and work with all parts of their organization. And well, yes, Spanish or Chinese would be a plus as well.
