How do you know if your digital marketing and PR initiatives are working? In this joint session with MPRC, we are going to go deep into measuring your PR and digital marketing efforts.
With tight budgets and a growing set of tools to use, we are facing tough decisions on where to put our resources. By figuring out what matters and how you are going to measure your results you are going to be able to make better decisions about marketing your business.
Katie Delahaye Paine, the queen of measurement, is coming up to talk about measuring social media, public relations, media relations, and your other programs. You’ll discover the tools, tips and techniques to prove the effectiveness of your social media and public relations programs and how to set measurable objectives.
Jim Patrick and Chad Gilley, from the Portland Press Herald, will also be talking about how they use data and analytics to make decisions. Chad will break down Google Analytics, with what you need to know and how to set it up for your website. Jim will tell you how to take that data, learn from it and tailor content to your audiences.
We will end presentations at 9:30 and then will have half an hour to workshop. We will have a few experts on hand to walk through your analytics with you and make sure you have them set up correctly and know how to find the reports most important to you.

Katie Delahaye Paine is the Senior Measurement Consultant at Paine Publishing in Durham, NH. Known as the “Queen of Measurement,” Katie provides consulting and training to organizations wanting to define and measure success specifically around implementing the new standards for social media measurement and public relations.
Jim Patrick, social media editor for the Portland Press Herald, started a MySpace account in 2007 and immediately hated it. He started a Twitter account in 2011 and immediately hated it. And he started a Facebook page in 2008 and loved it. All that social media experience helped Jim land the social media gig in 2017. Jim has been working at the Press Herald since 2010, where he’s written A1 stories, designed A1 pages and tweeted the A1 stories. Outside of work, he’s a runner, golfer and skier. Not on the same day though. And of course, he’s a beer fan who is as comfortable with Dinner as he is with High Life.
Chad Gilley, Director of Digital Audience Engagement and Revenue for MaineToday Media, has worked in digital media in the Portland area forever, or 20 years, … forever in digital years. After several years in radio, mostly at WCLZ, he became the online editor at Time Warner Cable’s aroundmaine.com. Chad has been working behind the scenes at the Portland Press Herald since 2010, where his primary responsibilities have included keeping the advertising and analytics machinery oiled up and running smoothly. When not working he might be found at any local comic shop, or home with a virtual reality headset attached to his face, exploring the frontiers of electronic media’s future.
