Essential Questions to Include on Every Employee Survey

To measure one of the concepts below, choose your employee survey questions from the statements that follow. Usually you will want to do a quick pulse survey, so use no more than five questions that align to your particular objectives.

To measure employee engagement with the organization:

On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 meaning not at all and 7 indicating total agreement, please state how much you agree with the following statements:

  • “I would recommend XYZ Co. as a great place to work.”
  • “When needed, I am willing to give extra effort to help XYZ Co. meet its goals.”
  • “I would like to be working for XYZ Co. 12 months from now.”
  • “If I were offered a comparable position with similar pay and benefits at another organization, I would stay at XYZ Co.”
  • “I would recommend working at XYZ Co. to family and friends.”

To measure employee trust in the organization:

On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 meaning not at all and 7 indicating total agreement, please state how much you agree with the following statements:

  • “This organization can be relied upon to keep its promises.”
  • “I feel very confident about this organization’s skills.”
  • “This organization has the ability to accomplish what it says it will do.”
  • “Sound principles seem to guide this organization’s behavior.”
  • “This organization does not mislead people like me.”
  • “This organization is known to be successful at the things it tries to do.”
  • ”People at all levels of my organization are treated with respect.”

To measure employee alignment with corporate strategy:

On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 meaning not at all and 7 indicating total agreement, please state how much you agree with the following statements:

  • “I understand the goals and objectives of my organization.”
  • “I can see a clear link between my work and my organization’s strategy.”
  • “I understand how my work impacts our customers.”
  • “I know how my role contributes to the success of the company.”
  • “I have a good understanding of the company’s business goals.”
  • “I have confidence in the long-term success of the company.”
  • “I have a good understanding of the steps we are taking to reach the company’s business goals.”
